Location, Relocation? What attracts homebuyers in the North West?

The North West offers a mix of vibrant city living, beautiful countryside, and a strong sense of community, making it a fantastic location for a new home.

But what factors truly influence the decision of choosing where to live in the region?

We recently asked North West residents what they value most about their local area. The results highlighted clear priorities: friendly people, proximity to major cities, stunning natural landscape, and excellent transport connections.

Respondents also appear to be thorough researchers, with 50% indicating they conduct a "great deal" of local area research before deciding on a new home. This detailed process includes multiple visits, speaking to locals, and online investigation.

Community and convenience

One of our top tips for moving house is to really consider the location. Our respondents highlighted a clear preference for a local area that allows for a balanced lifestyle.

  • Connectivity to towns and cities (37.5%) was considered the most valued aspect of a home’s location
  • Scenic views (28%) came in a close second
  • Then family-friendly environments (19%) finished off the top three

There is clearly a demand for accessible suburban living - a place that balances the relaxing countryside but remains a short distance from the region’s city hubs.

Daily life and wellbeing

The small, daily conveniences are also non-negotiables for North West residents. When rating factors, three scored very high.

  • Proximity to parks and green spaces was rated important by 82%
  • Access to healthcare facilities was important to 75%
  • Being close to local shops was similarly important to 74%

Transport connections

In a region with two major cities and expansive rural areas, transport links are also paramount. The most desired connections for North West homebuyers were:

  • Train stations for 40%
  • Bus stops for 31%
  • Motorways for just 16%

While access to motorways is important for some, access to public transport for commuting and sustainable travel appears to be the greater priority for the majority.

A region of high quality of life

The survey also revealed how highly the North West is regarded by its own residents. Cheshire, where we are currently building new homes at Bollin Grange and Foxglove Place, was considered to offer a high quality of life by an impressive 86% of people.

Finding the ideal home

North West homebuyers are sophisticated, well-researched, seeking a home that offers a balance of great transport links, proximity to key amenities, and easy access to the region’s vibrant towns and cities.

At Linden Homes, we use this data to ensure every development we plan is in a location that meets the needs and desires of the people who live there. We’re committed to building homes that perfectly fit the North West community.
